Not all users need expensive flagship devices with a lot of bells and whistles. The new Tecno Spark 4 Air is designed to meet the demand for niche affordable smartphones. To do this, he has a large frameless screen, a large supply of memory and a dual camera. Did the manufacturer manage to make a decent state employee, read in our review.
Most of the front panel is a 6.1-inch display. It is manufactured using IPS technology, has an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9 and a resolution of 720×1560 pixels. The image density is low, 282 ppi. However, it is enough so that the picture does not crumble into pixels. Granularity is almost invisible to the naked eye.
There are no complaints regarding color reproduction, viewing angles and brightness margin – the image quality is decent with any use cases. Information from the display is well read on the street, auto brightness works very correctly. Separately, it is worth noting a good oleophobic coating – the finger glides nicely across the screen, leaving almost no residue.
Performance without surprises
The smartphone received 2 GB of RAM and a MediaTek Helio A22 processor. This is a popular chipset for low-cost gadgets, it is characterized by moderate power consumption and low heating at a significant load.
The volume of internal storage is 32 GB, of which at first power on, about 24 GB is available. If this is not enough, the memory can be expanded using microSD up to 256 GB. There is a separate slot for it, so you don’t have to choose between two SIM cards and a place for files.
With the speed of the interface, everything is in order. Only occasionally, slight slowdowns occur, for example, in the list of recommended applications in the Google Play Store. However, this happens on more expensive devices.
The filling allows you to run simple arcades and even some heavy games, however, only at the minimum settings. Let’s say World of Tanks comes with stable 40 fps.
There is no NFC chip – in budget devices this module is still extremely rare. But there is a fingerprint scanner and the function of recognizing the owner by the face, and they work fine.
As an interface, a proprietary HiOS shell based on Android 9.0 is used. It is quite lightweight and does not take up a lot of system resources. HiOS integrates many useful functions and settings, including recording conversations from the line, game mode, and flexibly customizable gesture control. There is also an application for configuring and installing themes – you can diversify the appearance of the system.
Photo capabilities are represented by a dual camera: 13 megapixel with f / 2.0 and a QVGA module. The second lens is needed to measure the depth of field in portrait mode. We must say right away that he copes with his task – the blur is neat, without obvious marriage. There is also a double flash, which helps to take pictures in complete darkness.
You can’t expect outstanding shots from a low-cost smartphone, but Spark 4 Air hasn’t hit its face in the dirt. Daytime photos are worthy: accurate color reproduction, minimal noise. The AI function helps to make a brighter and more saturated frame, especially useful in cloudy autumn weather. At night, the pictures lose in quality, but everything is within the bounds of decency – the software works neatly with light, almost without overshooting with focus.
The maximum video resolution is Full HD, frame rate – up to 30 fps.
The back of the Spark 4 Air is made of glossy plastic. It quickly becomes covered by fingerprints and scratches, so it is better to immediately put on the device a cover from the delivery. From afar, the case looks glass and shimmers beautifully in the light. The device turned out to be in black and purple, but versions of gray, blue and bright purple will also go on sale.
The battery capacity is 3000 mAh – a very typical figure for an inexpensive smartphone. This is enough for a full day of work in active mode, unless, of course, hang up in games.
The firmware has a lot of energy saving settings, so if you wish, it will be possible to significantly increase autonomy. Among other things, you can limit the background operation of selected applications, reduce the frequency of the processor, and much more.
