Vsmart Live is a smartphone of the new Vietnamese brand, which, it would seem, is no different from the low-cost Asian gadgets already on the market. However, it boasts a large AMOLED screen, a 48 megapixel camera and a powerful battery. Is this enough to conquer the Russian market? We understand the review.
Straight from vietnam
The Vietnamese company VinSmart entered the market in the summer of 2018 and quickly became popular in its homeland. In addition to telephones, the brand produces household appliances, audio devices, wearable accessories and gadgets for smart homes. The manufacturer promised to bring the entire ecosystem to Russia. The Vsmart smartphone is manufactured in and out of Vietnam, and you will not see the familiar Made in China label on it, which sometimes makes you doubt the quality.
In addition to the flagship, three more VinSmart devices will be available in the Russian Federation, at prices ranging from 4,990 to 11,990 rubles. Of course, the most interesting model is the top-end Live.
Display without “eyebrows” and “bangs”
The first thing you notice in the new product is a large screen without cutouts. The side frames are narrow, and the upper and lower are symmetrical, which is rare. The design of Vsmart Live is a good example of how to fit a front-end and all sensors without cutting anything in the display. A notification indicator is provided that lights up when charging or if there are missed messages. There is an audio jack, and USB-C. In addition, the manufacturer was not greedy, putting a headset in the kit.
Using the Vsmart Live screen is pleasant: the matrix is bright, with wide viewing angles, moderately contrasting and clear. Due to the high resolution of FHD + (400 ppi), even on stock wallpapers with a soft gradient, individual pixels are not visible. To protect against scratches, the front panel is covered with Asahi glass (the Japanese equivalent of Gorilla Glass).
The display is based on AMOLED, but PWM flicker at minimum brightness is not noticeable. You can safely enable the Always On Display mode – the charge is practically not consumed.
The design of Vsmart Live is in the spirit of the times: a bright glossy back, a neat triple camera unit. We got a version in the coloring “Blue Ocean”, also more classic options are available – “White Mother of Pearl” and “Black Midnight”.
The model for the Russian market comes without a cover, but it is a pity: the back surface of the smartphone is easily soiled. At the same time, the case is made of plastic and bordered by an aluminum frame. How strong the construction is will show real use.
Triple Camera with AI
One of the main features of the gadget is a triple camera with a main sensor of 48 megapixels (f / 1.7). After the update, the phone will take pictures with a higher resolution and reduce it to 12 megapixels, giving out the image with the best quality. We tested the version with Vietnamese firmware, where this feature has not yet been implemented. You can now select a resolution of 48 megapixels in manual mode. Photos are larger in size, but the quality is not different from 12-megapixel images. Nevertheless, in daylight, the images on the main lens are bright, with good detail and the correct color reproduction. I especially liked the night mode – AI combines 8 frames with different brightness in one picture.
There are two additional sensors: a 5-megapixel lens with an aperture of f / 1.9 to measure the depth of the scene and create a bokeh effect; as well as an ultra-wide camera with a resolution of 8 megapixels (f / 2.2) and a viewing angle of 120 °.
Vsmart’s photo modules are smart. AI can be disabled only in Beauty mode, in other cases it works by default. By the way, about beauty: in this format it is convenient to retouch the skin, enlarge the eyes, make the face slimmer and so on. At medium settings, such a retouch looks natural, at maximum (as it usually happens) – it turns a person into a plastic doll.
The front sensor with a resolution of 20 megapixels (f / 2.2) can also shoot in portrait mode, the degree of blurring of the background is programmatically controlled. Advanced selfie options are available for the selfie camera, but you cannot change the aperture with them. For fans of funny selfies, a small set of AR stickers is provided.
Vsmart Live shoots in 4K at 30 fps or Full HD at 60 fps. There is no optical or software stabilization.
Iron, software and a couple of compromises
The smartphone does not have a top-end, but a powerful chipset: Snapdragon 675, made according to the 11-nm process technology. The Galaxy A70 and Redmi Note 7 Pro work on the same. In AnTuTu, he scored 206,286 points, and in practice proved to be powerful. For example, in PUBG, the mobile phone immediately set high graphics settings, supported comfortable fps throughout the game and almost did not heat up. Problems with loading the interface and applications also do not arise.
Another advantage of the new product is a clean Android OS. The system is not cluttered with unnecessary applications: there are no pre-installed Yandex services, advertising shortcuts, and downloaders. Only Google stock utilities. It is known that the device is guaranteed to receive an update to the tenth Android, and not all budget models are capable of boasting this. The phone also supports modern wireless modules: there is Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi.
The gadget has two modifications that differ in RAM: 4 or 6 GB. Both are equipped with 64 GB storage, but lack a microSD slot. The problem is solved by constant uploading of extra files to the cloud or to a computer. However, it is still not clear why the manufacturer abandoned memory cards.
Like most Asian mobile phones, the novelty does not have NFC. The vendor promises to add a contactless payment module to future Vsmart devices for the European market.
The fingerprint sensor is installed under the screen. It looks fashionable and technologically advanced, but it works slightly worse than classic rear panel sensors. With Always On Display active, you have to tap the screen twice: so that the area for scanning is highlighted and directly for unlocking.
The creators of VinSmart did not stint on the battery: the mobile phone received a 4000 mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0. A suitable quick memory is included, which is especially convenient.
The phone holds a good charge – thanks to the energy-efficient processor and AMOLED-matrix. In airplane mode, with an average brightness, a full battery is enough for 18 hours of video playback. Gaming is already more voracious: half an hour playing PUBG with active Wi-Fi consumed 7% of the charge. With a standard use case (web surfing, YouTube, mail and instant messengers), the smartphone will definitely last a day and a half without an outlet.
In half an hour, Vsmart Live charges from zero to 40%, in an hour – up to 75%. The last percent is given to him the most difficult: for the full cycle takes an hour and 45 minutes. There is no wireless charging support.

The flagship model of the VinSmart brand turned out to be interesting – largely due to its Vietnamese origin. The fact that the device was not made in China is already curious. Yes, there is no NFC and a slot for a memory card. However, an excellent screen, pure Android, good autonomy and a good Vsmart Live processor for many can serve as arguments for a purchase.
