The OnePlus 2 was announced on July 28 2015.
Like the OnePlus One, the OnePlus 2 was initially released with an invite system, the device was first available on August 11 2015, including 6 areas; China, Hong Kong, India, Canada, the EU and United States.
The OnePlus 2 is OnePlus’ second installation of the OnePlus series.
The smartphone is OnePlus’ first device to feature a fingerprint sensor. The device is built with a metal frame covered with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 panel and a rear panel with OnePlus’ signature Sandstone Black texture.
The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 paired with either 3GB or 4GB RAM (LPDDR4); depending on the variant the device comes in 16GB or 64GB internal storage (at eMMC v5.0 speeds).
In terms of photography and videos, the device features a 13-megapixel sensor supported with optical image stabilization and laser focus. The front shooter comes with a 5-megapixel sensor with distortion free software.
The OnePlus 2 is the first device to feature an alert slider on left-side of the device.
The device lacks NFC and wireless charging.
Instead of CyanogenMod 12, the OnePlus 2 software is powered with their own custom OxygenOS (Global Version) and HydrogenOS (China). The software closely relates to stock Android and CyanogenMod, but tweaked to suit OnePlus’ fan’s suggestions; both software originally ran Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop), with the latest version as Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow). OnePlus has stopped official software support for the device in 2017, releasing the last update OxygenOS 3.6.0 in July 2017 (featuring the “Android Security Patch Level 1st June 2017”).
The smartphone is actively supported by the online community, with custom software such as LineageOS bringing Android 7.0 (Nougat) to the device.
